Charles J Houston, God Bless 9-11-01

Twelve long years have passed since the tragedy at the World Trade Center and The Pentagon happened. I am taking this time to honor one victim as a tribute to ALL 2996 lives that were so harshly taken that Sept. Morning. Charles J. Houston, a forty-two year old stock broker working for Euro Brokers Inc. Located on the eighty-second floor in Tower number two is where Charles spent his final hours. Taken from us for NO Fuckin good reason as well as all the others lost that day, still goes without REAL answers. All we can say or hope for is that God is blessing these poor families effected by this tragedy. Even my family was effected. My father helped build those beautiful pieces of New York City skyline, and as well with the clean-up. My brother-in law mentally lost it after the clean-up. He picked up part of a human body. I will leave it at that. Now he is my ex-bro in law(mentally changed drastically). If that is what the workers went through, I can only imagine what the families are going through to this very day. May God Bless Every One Of Them.

Taken from Legacy.com, as appeared in the New York Times here is some thoughts from those who actually knew him:
Charles Joseph Houston was 6-foot-1, weighed 225 pounds and had a thick mustache. "He had a rough exterior, but inside, he was such a mush, especially around children." said Linda Houston, his wife. He frolicked in his backyard pool with his 2- year-old nieces, read to his 9-year-old nephew, and in general "snuggled with them." He went for walks with them and took them to movies and malls. "He was like a second father," she said."But he was a pull-no-punches type of guy," she added. "What you see is what you get. He wouldn't sugarcoat on anything. If you asked him for an opinion, he'd tell you what he really thought, sometimes even things you didn't want to hear."He and his brother-in-law, Otto Diodato, the father of his nieces and nephew, used to be efficient handymen in their two houses, merely a few yards apart. They'd be constantly concocting projects , redoing the kitchen counter tops, building fences, changing the bathroom tiles , and actually finishing them. But shortly before the September attack, they had become more like "Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble," his wife said. "They would joke around, enjoy each other's company, and the projects would last forever." Mr. Houston, 42, worked at Euro Brokers. He and his wife were planning to adopt a child next summer.

God Bless America!!!

Every Sept. 11 for as long as this blog is alive, I will continue to post this about Charles Houston. Keeping HIS memory alive as well as ALL the others lost that tragic day.

Many thanx to Ed and my Dad for the pictures. Taken from Ground Zero Sept.20, 2001. Thank all of you guys and gals that helped clean up and that are rebuilding our great city, New York.

great tribute dawg. it brings tears to my eyes to see what the terrorists have done to us. the useless waste of innocent lives-little children trying to grasp the idea that daddy is with the angels and not there at 'bring daddy to school' day.

Wonderful tribute! There will always be a sad spot in my heart for the friends and family who lost loved ones 5 years ago tomorrow. I was humbled by the number of heros that emerged that day. God Bless!

It's almost refreshing to see some anger.
I'm so sorry that your family has suffered through this tragedy as well. It's great despite your how your family was affected, you're able to share this tribute and honour someone else.

this is Susan. thanks to all families (including yours) who helped before or after the horrible loss of life that occured on 9-11. An old girlfriend of mine lived in NY . Her husband worked in the Windows to the World Restaurant in one of the towers. Needless to say he lost his life. It was devastating not only for his wife but his son. Thankfully she is engaged to a nice man who truly loves her and the son.

Thanks for posting such a great tribute to another great life. I have posted a tribute honoring Sgt. Michael Curtin, a NYPD officer who willingly walked into collapsing buildings five years ago on a rescue mission. His body was recovered in the rubble of Ground Zero March, 2002. So many lives lost....so many heroes.

He was my uncle and what a great guy he was. The kind of guy you never get tired of hanging with. Can't wait to tell my 2 kids (he never got to meet) all about him.

You know Dawg, I was talking to my Grade 8 class today about 911 and the hair on my arms was standing on end. Do you realize they were just in Grade 1 when all this went down? When I realized that I also realized that all those kids out there who are missing parents as a result of this insane act of terrorism are now 7 years older and still fatherless, or motherless, etc. and my heart goes out to them.

Hi TireDawg,
I don't know what made me think of it today but I remembered a silver bracelet I was given about 9 years ago. The bracelets were made to honor the victims of 911 and have their name on it. My bracelet has the name Charles J. Houston.

I never looked up the name before but wore the bracelet for some time. For some reason today I feel the urge to look up Charle's name and see if I could find out something about him and found your blog.

I am 42 years old, like Charles was and ironically I am adopted. Just found that interesting. Thank you for sharing about who Charles was. I am glad to know about the man whose name I am honored to wear!

P.S., while I am do not watch much NASCAR...I do love to drive fast!

Warm regards,

~Heidi
