Over Coming The Odds

Since Benny Parsons has let us all know he has lung cancer, it had me thinking. See my mom died because of lung cancer. It is a horrible way to go. Rough on the person and rougher on the family. Although she did it to herself by smoking 5 packs a day, I felt pity for her more than anything else. Any time a person does something destructive to themselves willingly, it makes it hard for me to feel sorry for them. If anything it makes me really pissed at them because they stole away from their families so selfishly. Realizing smoking sucks and kills, Benny quit smoking in 1978. It took me 8 years and a collapsed lung after my mother died for me to stop(that is why smoking sux, very very addicting and hard to quit not to mention almost certain DEATH!!!). Luckily the prognosis is good for his recovery. We will all see what kind of man and true champion that Benny IS in the months to come. The man says he WILL work through all his treatments, HE WILL!!! In the past I have cracked on Benny for being in the booth as a commentator. I still think he belongs more in the pits than the booth, but I could really care less where he is as long as it is at the track. Get well and may God bless Benny, we love you and like the true Champion you are, you WILL win this race!!!

I like when Benny gets all excited over nothing. He cracks me up. Glad to know he's going to work through it. That's the best medicine sometimes. Yeah, smoking sucks big time. So glad we quit when we did.

Yup, Benny is a little over the top sometimes but he doesn't make the race about him. You never hear him say, "When I was driving....blah blah blah...." and then proceed to act like a know-it-all. Cancer is scary. My aunt is now fighting it. Being a non-smoker I can't understand the hold it has on people but I do know it's very real. Despite being on oxygen, she'd kill for a ciggy! Oh well....prayers to Benny. Hope he many more years of getting over-excited at a debris caution.

p.s. I like your site. Nice job! I lurk over at the pitstop occasionally and enjoy your posts.

BP is the MAN! These "young guns" today could take some lessons from him. He's total class. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

As you said sometimes I wish he were in the pits and not talking so much! Still, I like him and would not wish cancer on my worst enemy. God bless him & pray for a speedy recovery. I have been quit for over 25 years. My husband has quit many times and then starts back. He does at least go outside to smoke when we are at home. when we go out to eat we sit in non smoking so he knows just won't take any action.
