The grandson of Glen Wood is about embark on a lifelong family tradition. Being a part of that famous number 21 Ford. Thanx to Dale Jarrett, Jon got his first go-cart from the then driver of the 21 Citgo Ford. Given the history of the Wood Brothers it is NO surprise that in 2003 Jon scored two wins in the Roush Racing number 50 Ford F-150. Not bad considering he ran only about half the races in the latter part of 2002 in the Craftsman Truck Series. When Jon was about four years old Eddie( Jon's Dad) noticed that he had a nitch for racing as well as being a keen observer. There was a Big Wheel race held for the ‘Racer Kids’ in Daytona. After watching several races, Jon used a push start rather than a pedal start to jump out to a lead and win the race. He had watched as the other kids were spinning their wheels at the start and figured out a way to get an advantage. Pretty damn smart! As a parent it is also scary, if you have cookie crumblers then you know what I mean. Since the age of twelve Jon has been racing something, whether it was go-carts, Legacy cars, trucks, now Busch and soon to be Cup cars. Hopefully Jon will keep up the tradition of Wood Bros. Racing going. NASCAR has lost almost ALL tradition. Over fifty years Wood Bros. Racing has been a part of NASCAR, solidifying it as the OLDEST running team. It will be nice one day to see the 21 car competitive again. Kenny is doing better than most, but I think that seat belongs to family. Maybe the son of Eddie and Carol Wood. See ya next year "Rookie".
Props to Rusty Wallace Inc. and David Stremme on their ARCA win Friday. Awesome job Johnny B. on your first truck win. Too bad it was in a Toyota. Do you guys smell burnin rice? Oh it must have been Johnny's burnout. Nice job Denny Hamlin. Should we be surprised though????
