Remember Your First?

It was the bi-centennial year and our great country was all about celebrations and Abe Lincoln beards. My grandparents had moved to Florida and asked if I wanted to see a stock car race. My first race was the Indy 500(as posted on another post). I had seen a couple of races on t.v. and been to a few little local dirt tracks, but never seen "stock" car races until. Back to point, it was the Firecracker 400 in Daytona. What a fizzuckin good time (even with "older" people). I was twelve and boy did that racin bug bite me hard. Janet Guthrie was even racing, a shock for me because of the open wheel racing I was exposed to. Petty finished twenty second, while Cale Yarborough won and David Pearson wound up second while pole-sitter old "Grumpy" AJ Foyt came in fourth. All I know I was in heaven, twelve years old at a race track filled with half dressed women and race cars. Grandfather was a trip, he would let loose every once in awhile but still keeping his composure. He was a very quiet man, but he loved the Indy style cars. Which until that time so did I. After that hot fizzuckin day in Daytona hanging with a shzzit-load of drunk "good ol" boys this city slicker was hooked. Todays technology and costs sure have changed the way this sport was intended. Remember, run what you brung?

I was exposed to racing very early on. Both my Dad and brother were involved. My Dad took me to my first race when I was around 8.
Hey, that's a good number there I think I'll stick with it.
