Last lap Feb. 18, 2001 turns three and four. Not much more to say except the racing world lost one of the greatest drivers and I lost my childhood hero. The pictures of the crash are not posted, all of us Dale Sr. fans have that etched in our memories. My reason for doing this post is to remind ALL of us how fragile life is and how much ALL these drivers put on the line. Before this 2006 season starts I cannot forget that this is the five year anniversary of his passing. These pictures are a tribute to his death. All were taken before and after the accident. My eyes are watering and the knot in this forty-one year old's stomach is beginning to hurt. His death was not in vain though. The mandating of the neck and head restraints and soft walls are partly because of Dale's untimely demise.
Only would a true legend got out doing what he loved at a track he loved KNOWING his two cars were gonna be first and second in the Daytona 500. God bless you Dale and all of the Earnhardt family. You will NEVER be forgotten.

Sad it took that to get the safety requirements we have in place now. But I guess there's a plan bigger than us and we can't always fight it. We don't always know what is best or understand the reason behind events such as this.
I wasn't even a NASCAR fan yet back in 2001, and it brings tears to my eyes to see these pictures...
Very nice post. He was quite a guy.
Did you see the Dale Earnhardt, Sr template Denise did??? I think this one's for you!!
